Juliana Saiska
2005 – 2007 MA in Artistic Psycho-Social Practices, Theatre
Department, New Bulgarian University, Sofia
1982 – 1986 National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts “Krastju
Sarafov” (NATFA)
Mastership in Acting for Drama and Film
Professional experience:
“One Hour before Midnight” is the first performance in my own
authorship. I aim to create a steady and permanent group – this
includes actors, multimedia artists and musicians, who share the
ideas and the artistic quests for the type of interdisciplinary
art, that I endeavor to explore. My interests are directed to
the non-conventional theatre sphere. What has ever concerned me
like an artist is to excite, to search for the most explicit
expression of the emotional life, to create new life and reality
from the unreal…
My last performance “Psychosis 4:48”, which premiere was held in
Guillotine Theatre, Stockholm, is an example of my self-realized
development in the work process. This period of catharsis lead
me to a different level in my artistic intentions, yet their
course have taken form before through my acquaintance with
Massaki Iwana and White Butoh, as well as in my work with Ivo
Dimchev and Galia Borissova and in the consequent realization of
ideas and plays.
I have participated in thirty theatre performances and in over
twenty festivals in our country and abroad. Most important for
me are “Master and Margaret” after M. Bulgakov, director Tedy
Moskov. The play was guest at the Avignon festival in 1999; the
performances of Kamen Donev “Cherry sisters”, directed by
Vazkresia Viharova; “Figures in love flight”, directed by Vlado
Petkov.
Awards and nominations:
2005 – “Askeer” nomination for supporting female part in “Figures
in love flight”
2003 – National festival for small theatre forms Vratza 2003, with
the part of Veruka from “Cherry sisters”, directed by Vazkresia
Viharova; the award of Euro-Bulgarian cultural centre for – “The
actress who makes music of her body”.

The “But not before” song with director of the clip Stojan Radev.
When they communicate, people usually very skillfully succeed
to hide their selves and their thoughts behind the words, that
is why it has always been more important to me what do their
eyes say when they touch each other or, in full silence, they
just stay together. It was just this special tenderness which
emerged in this performance; this tenderness, felt by people,
who don’t talk to each other, but who share every move of their
own, every breath, every glance; and what is more important is
that what they “talk about” is love! |

“In my childhood I spent a lot of time wondering what was hiding
out there behind the curtains, which covered an old
sewing-machine. It was exciting. Now I am older…And the
excitements as well as the curtains are different.” |

plays:
“Love avenues” – Sofia Theatre

“The Night before the forests” – Sofia Theatre, director Vladimir
Petkov, who staged one of my diploma performances “Chekhov, the
machine” in The Youth Theatre and the play “Figures in love
flight” (Sfumato theatre-laboratory), which is still in the
actual program of the theatre.
He has also worked side by side to the choreographers Tania
Sokolova (“Chekhov, the machine”), Mila Iskrenova (“Figures in

- “Crazy Industries” - in Vienna.
From the beginning itself, what mattered to me was my development
as an artist without need of stitching labels. I search, I try,
I struggle; I paint, I dance, I sing, I make photography, and I
do enjoy myself all the time.
